Swanson Zinc Citrate is manufactured by reacting zinc oxide with citric acid dissolved in water. The reaction produces zinc citrate, water, and, in the case of zinc carbonate, carbon dioxide. After the reaction, the mixture is filtered to remove impurities, and then the solution containing the zinc citrate is concentrated by evaporation. The zinc citrate is then crystallized by cooling the solution, the crystals are collected by filtration or centrifugation , and then dried to obtain a powder that is packaged for distribution.
